Welcome to the introduction about my topic of interest!

Defining Spirituality

As stated in academic sources, spirituality is defined as a subjective way of searching and experiencing the spiritual being. It provides a sense of meaning to life often associated with the ‘why’ behind existence (Gallacher, 2016).

Additionally, I believe that spirituality can be categorised as a way of expressing oneself freely and it can be confrontational to some extent as spirituality comes with ups and downs.

For many individuals, spirituality and religiosity are similar in definition. However, religiosity refers to an institutional linkage between a person and the sacred through practices in a particular community. On the other side, spirituality goes from exploring the meaning of life to acknowledging an intimate connection with realities and human nature (Villani et al., 2019). It can be said that there is no structure in engaging with spirituality.

Let's put into context!

Yet, I aim to introduce the chosen topic by searching for the different perspectives that can be found across social media platforms. Spirituality varies throughout cultures and countries hence proving to be dynamic.

It can be interesting to analyse comment sections on TikTok posts. In this case demonstrating the variety of beliefs. We can find numerology, Christianity, energy, people who are confident believers, those who struggle and others who seek.

This is the collaborative aspect of social media which helps spiritual beings gather as one community.

Okay... but why?

As mentioned before, questioning my surrounding is inevitable, thus leading to the core of my curiosity: why is spirituality important for people?

For me, spirituality brought about relief. For youngsters, it can be difficult to find the 'true self', to trust people and let go of others. According to sources, spirituality generates optimism, peace with others or oneself and acceptance towards death (Allen, 2020). In this way, as I grew out of adolescence, I realised that spirituality gave a meaning to hardships, and it taught me how to face them with maturity.

As stated in the section about my personal interest, life alignment has been a major part of my journey so far. This contemporary practice does not only focus on the meaning of life but also biological relationships between oneself and the surrounding. Everything we consume, touch, our physical environment altogether influences our well-being, the vibe we give off and the energy we let in.

Conclusion

It is essential to note that spirituality needs to be respected above all. Everyone experiences it through their own ways and do not forget to spread positivity!
